For my task this week I decided to complete the Rules and Procedures outline that was provided by my classroom management teacher. This outline gave me the opportunity to observe and record rules and procedures that are in the classroom and the school I intern in. I wrote down what I saw and I also talked to my CT about procedures and rules. My CT said she practices class procedures and review rules numerous times during the first six weeks of school. She said she devotes the first day of school to setting up a positive classroom culture while also introducing the rules and procedures. She said she does this so the rest of the year can go by smoothly and that more learning can take place.

I perceive the development of procedures and rules to occur over time. Children need to practice procedures to become familiar with them. When it comes to rules, children need to experience them and learn why they are in place. This will help them understand them and follow them because they will know why. The Principles of Classroom Management textbook defines procedures as routines that are directed at accomplishing something, while rules is defined as focusing on appropriate behavior in general by providing guidelines. From observing in classrooms, I have learned that procedures helps thing run smoothly while rules help teaching and learning to take place by effecting behavior.

Moving, I believe a big part of the first day/first week of school should be focused on introducing rules and procedures to the students like my CT does. The First Six Weeks of School textbook gives wonderful tips for starting off the year on a positive note in regards to rules and procedures. The authors say to introduce materials on the first day of school and to introduce a few simple routines. I plan to use this book to establish rules and routines in my classroom. Each day in the classroom my CT has her students go over the classroom rules. Each time the students line up, students also go over the 4 line rules so they know the exceptions. I believe that making sure students understand the rules and procedures is essential to success when it comes to classroom management. I want to follow as my CT does and do this with my future students. Without rules and procedures, I think the classroom would be highly unorganized. Overall,

I am glad I completed this outline and reflected on rules and procedures as I feel like to is important to do so in regards to having a well-managed classroom in my future.
