Tuesday, the 13th, was my first day at my internship in a kindergarten classroom. I arrived early to school to meet with my CT and get prepared for class. On the first day, I wanted to start building a positive and productive relationship with my CT. I arrived early at 6:45 to meet my CT and tart building this relationship. Moving on, as the students walked in, my CT greeted them and introduced me individually to the students while they were putting away their backpacks in their cubbies and getting started on the bellwork. I then said hi to each student after this happened. I would wave and smile while greeting and meeting the students. I wanted to make a strong friendly impression on my students so I was smiling all thought the morning routine. This was easy for me to do since I was very happy to finally be in the classroom and starting my internship. When the class finished settling in, my CT introduced me as the intern. She said I would be like a second teacher to the students and that they were to listen to me. Next I introduced myself as Ms.Becht and said I was very excited to be there and to starting working with them. I also said I cannot wait to get to know all of the students. This introduction was short and simple, but I was able to communicate to the kids that I was excited and there to help.

Getting to know the students:

Throughout out the week I made an effort to get to my students. I started with learning each of their names and then started to build relationships with them. By Friday, most of my students knew my name and were comfortable with me in the class. Numerous students started to ask me (in addition to my CT of course) questions about their work, for help on a problem, and if they could use the bathroom/get water. I am excited to continue working with my students. I completed the easiest task on the Classroom Management checklist this week, and I cannot wait to tackle the more complex ones.

Now going into the second week, I am picking up on how my CT converses with the students. She is warm and inviting towards them. I am modeling how I talk to the students after her. I ask some of the same questions that my CT ask the children like what they do after school and what their families are like. This is aiding me in getting to know my students and this also shows that I care (which I really do).
